It was Summer of 2021 and the pandemic was in full swing. The chaos our world was living in, the strain on my professional self and the lack of connection in my personal world led me to a path of self sabotage and an unhealthy lifestyle. My physical and mental health were suffering and I needed to find a new outlet. As so many of us did, I found myself spending countless hours scrolling social media and for once the mindless use of my time resulted in a lifechanging discovery as someone I knew made a post on HEAVY’s page recommending the gym as the place to be. What did I have to lose other than an hour of my time? I reached out to Tony and the following week I started my journey at HEAVY and what a journey it has been!
I was welcomed into the HEAVY family with open arms from the very first session. I knew that my physical fitness was not where it needed to be and everyone was very encouraging during my first session. I had survived!
My journey at HEAVY continues on a regular basis and in the past 18 months I have made significant strides in weight loss, but it isn’t so much about the number but about how I feel. I have worked my way to a place where I am accepting of my body, and its limitations, and appreciate that Tony knows exactly when to push me outside of my comfort zone and recognizes that today may not be my best.
HEAVY is so much more than a gym. It is a place of community, inclusivity, safety and family. I have come to welcome my 6am training sessions, not only to train my body and my mind, but to catch up with my gym friends, provide words of encouragement as we strive towards being our best and to partake in group hugs when one of us needs them. Those that come to HEAVY do so from all walks of life and there is no judgement in the space that Tony has created for us. We laugh, we cry, we share and we look forward to the gym each day. There is no place that I would rather be but amongst friends at this gym and would encourage anyone no matter how young or old, big or small, rookie or experienced gym goer, to give it a try. What do you have to lose – I lost 50 pounds!
