What brought you to Heavy?
I was doing a lot of running & sports and was transitioning to start going back to the gym for weights. I realized that I was spending hours at the gym without getting results. I heard about Tony’s training and needed to try it in person. I was hooked and followed Tony when he started up Heavy and never looked back.
What was your first experience like?
Before my first workout with Tony, I thought that I was in alright shape. Pretty quickly into the workout, I was humbled really quickly. I still remember sitting in the dressing room after the first workout and was unable to lift my arms to take off my shirt that was drenched in sweat. I knew it was the workout style I needed. I remember thinking that I can’t do the next set or exercise. Tony was always there to push me and feel safe that I wouldn’t injure myself. Tony still does to this date; the exercises continue to be more complex and heavier, but he is always there to instill confidence that I can push myself to get stronger.
How has it impacted your life?
Being fit and feeling good about myself has taken priority. I feel more confident in myself and know that I am in a better place mentally and physically when I am training and keeping myself in shape. With Tony, he has given me a diet to follow which fits the style of life I’m looking for, a state of mind to keep pushing myself every day, and the tools I need to keep fit.
What sets Heavy apart from other gyms?
You always hear about gym culture being family. I feel that it really is with Heavy. I’ve got to see it from the ground up grow to be an awesome environment. It has always been an awesome gym, but the atmosphere, private feel, and number one focus on getting fit is such a great environment with no judging others. With Tony, you get the focus of a trainer that you would want, amazing equipment, and the space you need at a gym. I will never go back to a big box gym after being at Heavy. On top of all of that, the workouts will push anyone to get better while Tony works with you for whatever your goals are.
What keeps you coming back?
I like to think I know how to work out myself now but know that I won’t push myself to what Tony pushes everyone. As much as I find myself thinking I don’t want to work out today, it’s addicting the feeling when you finish a thrash workout with Tony and get through the mental and physical blocks. I want to be in the best physical shape possible and know that I need to stay at Heavy to continue to get better and to get the push, instruction, and leadership from Tony that I need.
